Any tutorials that show you how to install things in linux?

I've just converted form windows to ubuntu a couple of days ago. I'm like a total nood, is there any tutorials that give a detail guide on whats the difference between win apps and linux app, also how to install them and other basic things?

    might check youtube, join a linux user group, or maybe try linux mint its got tons of things preinstalled that most other distros dont
