q buen video…
“im new to ubuntu who can explain what beryl is please dont call me an idiot everyone has to start somewhere ”
Beryl was a fork of the original Compiz project and eventually re-merged (with parts of it) forming “Compiz Fusion”. The Compiz and Compiz-Fusion projects recently merged and is now known simply as “Compiz”.

Perfect video! Cool Music!
After this video I have installed Linux OS and “I’m loving it”! =)
Just a question – what is DE? Looks like Xfce..
Curently I have Ubuntu 8.10 and no complaints, I guess people are married to microsoft and don’t want to learn new operating systems
linux rules< I tried it on virus infected sites and no computer performance issues
tell me how can i make this effect with closing windows in first 7 seconds of this film
“That may be true but it is still obsolete.
Or what do you need all these animations for?”
If you do not need them then do not enable them. Many that contain eye candy provide functionality as well (e.g. cube and paint fire on screen). Others like “Rain” are entirely useless unless you are trying to stress test your GPU XD.
That may be true but it is still obsolete.
Or what do you need all these animations for?
“Just looks good but makes everything slower”
Not really. Compiz consumed ~70.0MB of 1GB when I maxed it out and didn’t seem to hog any other resources when idle. Most basic animations have insignificant effect on the CPU as using other window managers (e.g. Metacity) typically ended up consuming near the same amount of resources (though less RAM) and provided far less functionality (zoom, live previews, window transparency/brightness/saturation control, etc).
Looks kind of obsolete. Nice animations anyways.
But why do people always need to have those huge GUI and Window manager things?
I mean linux basically just is the shell. Who needs that whole thing?
Just looks good but makes everything slower (though I guess it’s still much faster than any Windows distribution).
That is soooooo amazing!
I want ubuntu soo bad now
Copied Vista? This video was released 2.5 years ago…
holy shit they copied vista with the close minimize and maximize buttons!!! fuck you linux!! go mac and vista!!
how is this iconbar called you’re using there?
@Alethi0
i agree with that my best Microsoft Os’s to use were Windows 95, 98, and XP so we have like 2 in common haha but agreed on that =)
wow i have Windows 3.1 and its quite stable but it does support recent program but stability its stable just saying….

Me hace gracias como los marcos de las ventanas imitan a Windows vista…
Por otra parte, esas animaciones más que nada distraen.
Lo único útil son los escritorios multiples. El hecho de que salga el cubo solo sirve para distraer.
My only argument is that Win98 and WinXP are the two best operating systems I’ve ever used, excluding any Linux distros. I’m also a kid.
And was it unstable in comparison to the other OSes of its time?
At time of release, what was everyone else doing? Sure beat MacOS…
I don’t know the answers, it’s not a rhetorical question. Hell, i’m a kid.
