My boyfriend always comes home late and I`ll be in bed – and he always leaves the sodding door unlocked.. would you do it where you live?

I’ve slept all night with that back door wide open before, and gone to work and left it like that too. Both by accident though, but nothing ever happened.

I don’t intentionally, but I have a dog. She barks if anyone even has the audacity to walk past the house, so I feel pretty secure.

I would always lock the door. Through my job I have good crime prevention knowledge and you wouldn’t believe how easy it is to break into a house where the door is unlocked.

One day it could be your house broken into and I wouldnt wish that on anyone.

Had you have asked this five or six years ago when I lived in Bromley, the answer would have “not under any circumstances”. Now I live in a lovely sleepy town (its just become a town) called Selsey. Its quite unique because its on a Bill and to get to it you have an eight mile drag on a single Road. We have little or no trouble because the Police can close that one road and trap any wrong doer quite easily. 99% of the locals are English, with the exception of the summer when we get holiday makers. It would not worry me to much if I left the door unlocked. I do think your young man should be a little more considerate with your wishes

Always make sure external doors are locked, and the downstairs windows. Any upstairs windows of unoccupied rooms are closed too.

I’m a light sleeper and have heard someone trying the door on more than one occasion, so has my neighbour.

i never lock the back door. we live in a quiet place in sussex. i dont have anything to steal and when i am home my dog is always with me so i am perfectly safe. if anyone tried to break in they would probably end up leaving the place tidier than when they found it. they would have a job getting along the lane too when its rained too much. i keep my car in a mess for this very reason. who would nick a car thats full of receipts and random bits and pieces?? if i were a robber i would go for the nice tidy car and the nice tidy house with lots of gadgets and money inside.

No definitely not these days, Your boyfriend should have more consideration for you. The scenario is that it will never happen to me but believe me in this day and age it can happen so quickly to anyone. I live in a house being a father who can look after himself and two strapping sons, we still lock up and take all precautions. There are some evil people out there.Take care
