I think its good . I believe that diversity in this world is a very good thing , being a slave of the US or Japan ,just because they have the technology i think is meaningless .
So .. Congrats China. AND For the free software movement .
yeeloong 8089, the 8.9″ mini laptop is available in Holland, by tekmote, it’s with loongson 2F, can’t wait to get one.
Great work by Chinese engineers. x86 compatibility has already been worked out. What do most computers get used for in China/India ? Email, internet (shopping, booking ticks, accounts, read news), playing games, watching movies. Now why should that require the latest technology and the latest most cpu draining version of Win32 ?? Go China ! The third world and hackers internationally congratulate you.
配上英文字幕会更好点 虽然我的回复old了
龙芯
they’re a couple of years behind in process technology. it’s mildly interesting, but there are way better platforms for the money.
You are rubbish
cool,
Chinese is Great!
Yea, this is just one more stop in a long line of Chinese ripoffs. No innovation, no creativity. It’s just pure copying and the fact that anyone here is “proud” of their country for being a bunch of chimps is just sad and pathetic.
龙芯是垃圾,中国”人”是垃圾
It’s important to know that CPU made in China.
想让更多人了解”龙芯”,好好做一个视频,然后用英语配一下音。
标题写作Lemote vs AMD 或者 Lemote vs Intel
thank you. good vid.
anyone knows what kind of hardware is in the Lemote Box?, I mean processor, memory, etc. I’m sorry if it is hard to understand the question (spanish is my mother tongue). best regards.
AND I would like to ask why Win? But the customers just have Windows-Washed minds. They do not want to try on new and better things. Moreover, the media always compare Loongson Box to big x86 machines in performance. They DIY a 1600RMB(~160 Euro) big stuff which can run Win and a lot PC games to mock at Loongson Box (sold at 1599RMB). I just don’t know if Lemote can still believe in themselves and believe their market.
They should show up something to the wintel. I agree with you. But i am worried about whether they know that their products are actually needed by a mass market. They have been criticized a lot in China. Too many people know nothing about Linux and asked them to support Windows. They blame Loongson that it is not Windows compatible and not for common people. But Loongson is a mips-instruction-set-compatible-alpha-like CPU with many new instructions. How can it go a WIN?
The attitude of Lemote toward international purchase is that they can post the Loongson Boxes to Linuxers who are interested in such product. But no formal sale is available in near future.
Sorry to split message in so many pieces, but Youtube has a 500 char limit.
Lemote, as a small company composed mostly by technicians and Linux developers, has no such power to deal with international market at present. They are not very good at business, actually. They are busy with software porting and developing, but not business. The fact make them kind and honest to users like us, but not competent to other companies.
Although the Boxes are nearly radiation-free and have very good result in CCC test, I know that currently the motherboards use VIA 686B as south bridge, which cannot pass ROHS. ROHS seems an EU certification? You know this better than me
The boxes will be sold at Chinese domestic market first, undoubtedly. If they really want to hit the international market, there are too many barriers(all kinds of certifications, authentications, stardards, e.g. FCC ROHS, etc, and custom duty, and transport costs) for them to override.
Hello, I don’t think the Box with Loongson 2E inside will be produced on a mass scale as Loongson 2F is comming. Loongson 2F is expected faster, cheaper, with DDR2 RAM support, more mips3-compatible and more power-saving. I think the new product will also have a better looking too.
I have heard that it is supposed to be produced on a mass scale (as it was announced by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in november last year). What are the chances of this little sweet box hitting the European market? If so when (if ever)? Europe could use a cold shower when it comes to mini-computer prices…
Although I believe that the Lemote box will appear in the US before it comes to Europe xD
this is awesome! I read about this new cpu on wikipedia and…your blog!
Hi, the CPU is not completely from scratch. It is 95% MIPS III compatible in instruction set though the internal structure is not similar. So we can use Debian for mipsel on it.
Hello, this is indeed Debian, not YellowSheepRiver on Municator. I did see one video clip showing YellowSheepRiver on Lemote Box. It was longer than 10min and couldn’t be uploaded.
This Box was a sample. Now this kind of box has been produced about 1000 as a pilot run with different appearance. I am now using Debian Sid on it.
