I purchased the PX800FW a year ago today – apart from the extremely difficult wireless set-up – it had worked well enough. It prints speedily enough but only after an amazingly boring and lengthy whirring/clicking sounds while it loads up what it has to print.
However, with 48 hours of warranty left it packed up – first demanding a replacement for “CYAN” before it would carry out any further tasks. All cartridges had been replaced two weeks earlier using genuine Epson ones purchased from Amazon. Very little colour printing was done in that two weeks.
I rushied out to PC World so I could print what I needed – installed the new cartridge – waited for the enivitable whirring/clicking to stop – and when it did it demanded ALL the other cartridges to be replaced.
It was clearly NOT an ink level problem after all – there had been no “low ink warnings” prior to it stopping work in any case.
Contacting Epson has been a complete waste of time – all one gets are robotic auto-answers informing me that I should only use genuine Epson inks and not the “compatibles”. My next email to Epson was met with an offer for me to send the cartridges back to them for analysis. Presumably Epson believe I have a spare printer while that process takes its course.
When a Company goes to great lengths to legally obscure their moral obligations regarding good customer services – its time for me to find a new printer that doesn’t carry the Epson name.
I’ve only ever had Epson printers in the past but NEVER again.

This is the best EPSON PRINTER yet, together with CLARIA INK and EPSON PREMIUM GLOSSY PHOTO PAPER a STAGGERINGLY good photo print is obtained, even on A4.Other good points, EVERYTHING! ie PAPER FEEDS, INFO SCREEN AND LOOKS. A slight downside is the clatter it makes when printing. The scanner works well too. Faults, non yet, but could do with a second paper tray for photo paper.
P/S I have tried cheap paper and other inks (using another printer, which failed). Doesn’t work for me.

I’ve always tended to stick with epson as a pro photographer, and this does nothing to deter me from that.
The ONLY minus point is that i have not (as yet) managed to get the WiFi functioning correctly, but in all fairness i have not tried too hard as it’s not a priority for me.
The prints are nothing short of perfect, every time. it’s a boon having two size trays built in and the CD/DVD motorized tray is fantastic.
The LCD touch screen is also very user friendly and uncomplicated to use, printing direct from cards by family is simple and works first time every time.
I have not yet tried the duplext unit that was a freebie, but i will soon enough.
Can only describe it as “The Mutts nutts”
Very happy, well done Epson…. AGAIN.

After reading some of the reviews I was a little worried but I need not have been. Setup only took 10 minutes. Wifi worked first time on all my computers. I have printed over 50 6×4 photos at the best quality and the original ink as not run out yet. Photos are brilliant.Only one bit of a problem is the paper cartridge. Bit fiddly if you need to print one side of a sheet then print the other.Does every thing it says on the box and more. Would recommend this printer even if it is a bit expensive.

I was apprehensive when purchasing this printer due to a few of the negative reviews mainly regarding print head problems and some previous issues I have experienced with Epson printers, but I have to admint I was impressed by an Epson printer my parents had recently purchased from the latest stylus range. I thought I would throw caution to the wind and have a pop at the Epson brand again after being personally put off many years ago with a printer that had a mind of its own and took forever to start printing!
Product I was replacing: Canon MP370 multi function printer, I had been reasonably happy with this printer (a printer apparently dogged with various faults I seem to have dodged) but it had developed possible print head problem in the last 6 months (well it was enough of an excuse to get something new when it started producing rubbish prints).
I ended up doing my usual thing and going for the upper end expensive model in an attempt to get myself a printer that would last me another few years and hopefully *just work*. One big thing I was looking for was WIFI printing (integrated, not an external print server, I have had nothing but problems with those) and scanning capabilities to go with my network of laptops PC’s and a solitary Mac, anything else is frosting on the cake. I had previously tried cheap wireless print server solutions and they sucked sadly
I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised with how easy the configuration of the printer was and how easily the software installed on my Vista 64 Ultimate main PC, 2 x Vista Home Premium laptops, 1 x Samsung NC10 Windows XP Home (Ok, I had to copy the software to a USB key to install here but it still *just* worked) and even my modest Mac mini. No problems with installing on virtual machines either, I even got it mostly (can’t scan yet) working with an Ubuntu 9 64 bit client system hosted on my Vista 64 Ultimate machine with only a few tweaks!
Scanning is pretty quick, even wirelessly – although if you whack the DPI right up to max it can take some time!
Printing is reaosnably quick and pretty good quality on even low grade paper (not sure what others have been seeing here, I can’t see problems). Not yet tried any glossies, but suspect the quality will be awesome considering I have had no problems with normal media.
One review I read mentioned a crap black print quality due to lack of true black ink…. not sure what printer they were using, but this sucker has 6 ink cartridges (including dedicated black) – not sure what they were using/seeing/doing!? The official inks are quite pricey but there seem to be some deals around to be had for about 1/3rd of the price of the suggested cartridges.
So far so good. This printer looks extremely good and performs very well. Fast print, good quality (IMO) and great compatibility with my hardware so far. Still to try – duplexer module! Will fit and test when I have a good excuse to! Wish I had an excuse to use the fax facility too so I could test the document feeder
I have to admit, there are cheaper printers out there depending on your specific needs, but I am not regretting this purchase at this time
I can’t fault the sheer number of features this bad boy has. I must try printing a CD/DVD, I simply don’t have the appropriate media at the moment and am quite happy scribbling on them – but I can see an excuse incoming to buy something to print on
