Some laptops have a switch to change between normal and Wifi modes. If not, it’s in the software. Serch your Control Panel for Internal Network Card. This should have the options to change between Wifi and Cable. My computer is set to connect to the cable first if it’s plugged in, but if not, look for Wifi. Yours should have a similar setting.
