How do I make wifi connection on my laptop?

It’s compaq c40-108. I haven’t been able to configure the wifi connection. Plese Help me out.

if you are using a broadband connection i.e PPPoE i.e if your wifi modem is connected to your landline telephone then below are the steps
first configure the modem
start
–>connections
–>show all connections
under lan and high speed connections
right click the wifi icon
then goto
–> properties
select internet protocol
–> properties
provide the ip adddress
something like this
192.168.1.1
subnet mask:255.255.0.0
leave the default gate way blank
prefered dns;192.168.1.3
alternate dns: 192.168.1.2
ok
then right click on wifi icon
and select view available wireless connections
and select the network
your modem is configured.
now connecting to internet
go to network connections
–> create new connection
wizard will appear
–>next
–>connect to the internet
–> setup connection manually
–> connect using internet which requires username password
provide the isp name
provide the username and password provided to u by ur isp
–>next
–>finish
after this u will get a prompt
click connect

(make sure that your wifi button on laptop is physically enabled)
