Do you have a SATA drive? If you have a SATA drive, XP may not find your drive during the install process. You’ll have to go into BIOS and set your drive to Legacy/ATA/IDE.

won’t be gone, but you wont be able to boot into it without fixing the mbr first. in the next few weeks, i’m going to try to come up with a general solution to this problem…i’ll keep you posted.

the reason you need xp first is because installing xp will overwrite vista’s boot loader. then you wont be able to boot into vista anymore. in the next few weeks, i’m going to try to come up with a general solution to this problem…i’ll keep you posted.

installing XP will overwrite the Vista boot loader. it won’t overwrite vista if you install to another partition, but you wont be able to boot into vista anymore without tinkering with the boot loader.

reponzo01, great video(s), and i’m a little unsure, i have a nice laptop with Windows Vista, am i able to partition it, then install XP on a partition? or is it only do-able if you are on Xp first, then you install Vista, then you install Linux? thanks =)

you have to boot into the XP cd. however, if you plan to install XP if you already have Vista, that’s gonna be tricky.

you can download gparted (google “gparted”), burn it to a cd, boot from it and use it to format your drive any way you want. their site has screenshots that should help.
