I have XP. If I dual boot with Linux and install Wine, will I have to reinstall my programs?

I’ve already installed programs under Windows XP. If I want to be able to use them with Linux, will I have to install them a second time for use with Wine?

  1. Indubitableness says:

One thing you can do is create a seperate install partition in NTFS format and install all your games to that partition. Then you can set your WINEPREFIX to use that partition (mount it somewhere like /media/Win_Share or /media/Win_Progs or /media/Program_Files or whatever you decide on.)

This way you can run the programs you installed in windows from wine. Do not expect everything to work, but I have had some success doing this in the past, although it is definitely not my preferred way to use wine (only because so few of my games actually WORK in wine.)

    Yes you will.

Also, keep in mind that only SOME programs will run under Wine… Wine is not a full windows implementation. The wine install will be completely separate from your windows boot.
