Rokland Technologies n3 Long Range USB Wifi Adapter Review

Pros: Significantly improved range, Mac OS 10.4 and 10.5 compatible driver software in the box, USB powered and can be used to repeat/rebroadcast a wireless signal. Cons: A bit pricey at , but it WILL increase your range significantly. If you need more range on your Mac, this will do the trick. It is significantly cheeper than other current Mac options, like the Quickly from Quickertek, which retails for $225. Software is not menu bar based, application/window like and has a bit more information than I would need. Bottom line: Everyone has run into the situation where they need “just a little more range.” While many options have been available for pcs, this is a new, relatively low cost solution that actually works.

Awesome, thank you for taking the time to do that. And thanks again for a great review. :)

Just downloaded two Ubunto ISOs with the n3. I kept my eye on the transfer rate- it was stable the whole time. So I don’t think there is an “overheating” issue here.

Great review, you answer most of the usual questions I have about signal strength and quality. One more question – does the wireless signal seem stable after long periods of high intensity use, such as watching a Netflix or other (long) streaming movie or downloading a large file like a 600MB ISO? Some other adapters can overheat and get flaky under heavy use or stress tests.

It’s been as solid as my AirPort in terms of an adapter. It’s cool scanning for stuff that the AirPort can’t see.

    Hello,

How is the unit performance wise? I don’t don’t mean the distance thing I mean how well does it perfom as an adapter?
