Good to see you showing all the command line stuff but for themes you just have to drag and drop it in the theme settings app and it is there.

just so you know, you can use a tilda (~) instead of $HOME in the terminal, makes it a bit easier :)

    Hey Nixie,

Some good news from me: Compiz might not work on my laptop, but it works on my desktop (yay!)
I’m probably not using too much of a theme on the laptop until Compiz works again, but I was wondering: do you know any good tools for creating themes? I’ve been thinking about one specific theme for ages, but don’t know how to work it out.

    looking forward to Nixie’s Tutorials 2.0 ;-)

great job NixiePixel! If people want a dock like MacOS, show them Gnome-Do with the “Docky” theme enabled. You never emailed me back about what tools you use in linux to make videos to upload to youtube :-P

  21. yayo685 says:

epic linuxness ftw, like the guy said before mac4lin theme, if you want the dock theres a dock out there in the ubuntu repositories called avant window navigator to emulate the dock. Linux is a pretty good os in general and if you use ubuntu, its really easy to use for beginniners. keep up the good work

    hot chick knows linux??? wha??

  23. waspbr says:

There is an easier way to to do it, if you theme already is on tar.gz format, all you need to do is download the file to the desktop then open System>Preferences>Appearance . Go to the themes tab, there just drag the tar.gz file from your desktop into the themes menu window. Done.

Though this is only going to add the theme to a single user, not to the system itself as you did.

It’s been written “OS X” for 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, and 10.5. It’ll still be “OS X” for 10.6. Do you think we’re going to go all the way to 10.9? Or will they come up with something entirely else before then? Will it be written “OS XI” or “OS 11″? Maybe they’ll go hexadecimal and call it “OS B”. At some point, roman numerals are going to be impractical. I can’t imagine them calling it “Mac OS XVIII”. That’ll be weird, when we see “OS B” but we’re supposed to say “OS eleven”.
