When burning the CD it must be burned as an “image” not a simple data burn. Roxio will do this for you. I’m not sure about any burning software. I think this is one of the most overlooked instructions in all of linux, even ubuntu’s instructions leave this out. Keep trying folks it’s worth it !

When i put my ubuntu 9.04 DVD into the drive and then boot up the computer it won’t boot to the ubuntu OS setup what do i do??! I even checked the BIOS to see if i could change anything, and it appears that the CD/DVD-ROM is first on the list, so is the DVD non-bootable?

I tried to install Linux. I made a CD, chose to install it with all the different options (at different times, of course) and NONE of them work. It says Linux is installed, but it doesn’t boot. Not even after I left it for more than an hour. I put in a request for a free Ubuntu CD.

    Am I doing something wrong?

Generally you don’t need to install drivers under linux, everything just plugs and plays. Your motherboard and DVD should both be fine. If you want to play dvd movies you will need to add the dvd player codecs, info on doing that is on the ubuntu website.

Best advice – try it out and see. Most modern hardware is supported fine, but some cheapo-windows only based wifi cards and modems still don’t work great unless you force it to use your windows drivers.
