What is the best and cheapest Broadband package for UK users? Currently, I am paying out £15.99 per month for the broadband, on top of which there is my line rental of £11.00 per month. I need a much cheaper package, but don’t know which to opt for. We have SKY TV downstairs, and my mum has a separate BT line, so we are well out of pocket,

I have BTBroadband and I think it is excellant, never had a problem with it , if you already have a BT line then it will be cheaper for you . Also dont always look at the 2MB or 8MB speeds as these are not entirly accurate, there is something called the Quality of the the broadband which gives a more accurate and faster speed ( i forgot the name , summit to do with ping time aswell) ) . ie a 8MB connection can be faster than a 16MB .
what speed. If it’s 1Meg or more then DON’T YOU FOOL. THAT’S BLOODY AMAZING. If it’s 512K or 256K then try Sky, as they have a good see and surf package. It works out as about £10-15 on top of your Sky payments.
sky free free internet 2mb with 2gb downloadn limit and for a £5 8mb and 40gb limit
This is my area of expertise.
The cheapest possible option for you is Talktalk from Carphone Warehouse.
They take over your line (at 10.50 a month), charge you £5.89 a month for their talk2 tariff (free evening and weekend calls to UK landlines and 36 international destinations) and on condition you have this, they throw in the 8meg braodband free.
Only bad bit is a 29.99 connection fee, but its a small price to pay for the savings you’ll make.
Alternativley if you have and orange mobile contract of £30 a month or more, they will charge you £5 a month for 8meg broadband but again you have to pay the landline to BT.
hope this helps.
Hi there
If i were you, I’d remove your second phone line (unless sharing a line with your mum is not practical) get sky broadband on your mums phone line and use a wireless router to connect to your laptop/desktop pc. Depending on your TV package with sky you get some really good rates on their broadband service. They bought out Easynet a year or 2 ago who were one of the biggest business internet providers in the UK so their network is pretty good.
Doing it this way you could have a potential saving of £26.99 per month as sky do some free packages
Hope this helps

Consider yourself lucky I live in Hull, one I P and their crap.
Broadband £19
Skye £34
Landline £23
id go with talktalk….had loads of problems with my orange broadband a few months ago and was paying £18 per month just for broadband….switched to talktalk…no problems so far (4months now )….all in for £20 inc free calls to landlines day or night….speed is 2mb…..wouldnt normally recommend anything to do with car phone warehouse but this time theyve got it right…..
The statement about BT broadband is very true, it’s reliable and a good quality network. However, I have switched to talktalk mainly because of the excessive cost of BT’s broadband and it’s download limits.
The talktalk service is the same speed but the latency is crap(always timing out), yet, after some tweeking and bypasing their DNS servers, the service is now as good as the BT one.
And most importantly it’s FREE
i have had talk/talk for a while i have never lost connection i got it not long after it came out…… (the package)… broaband and calls to landlines for 22pound a month…. also a one off payment of 30pound
