Now that bluray has won the format war, what r Linux developers doing about multimedia?

I don’t care about DRM or if I have to pay for a codec license or not to watch bluray movies. Will there be any legal software for this?

I hope there is or u can forget about Linux ever being popular, so what have they done so far?

Thanks!

I think it would depend on what you mean by "legal." There is already "legal" playback for DVDs. By at least one court ruling (in Finland, I think), free DVD playback is legal for Linux because no company makes DVD playback software for Linux, and it would thus unfairly force you to use Windoze.

Blu-Ray and HD-DVD have already been made to work in Linux, although it is currently somewhat awkward.

I have no doubt that someone will write a program to make it easier in time.

Linux with BluRay support will probably be introduced, but it won’t be free seeing how BluRay is still closed source and has not been made into a ‘mainsteam’ format yet. But given some time when Bluray fully replaces DVD’s then we will probably get Linux with built in Bluray support.

screew whats defined as legal just cause I choose linux I wont allow some corporate jerk to say I am not allowed to watch somthing because I dont choose there OS. Screew the DRM and all those idiots if there is software out there for my app I will use it. And just for the record i could care less about anything other then DVD they are just fine I also dont support killing off a good tech just so somebody else can make a ton of money on me on an item thats not that much better lets get real where does it end we need things to be more common not more differant unless everybody wants to pay through the nose for every day items.
Bottom line somebody will reverse engineir it legal or not who realy cares
